About Betway

Betway is owned by The Betway Group, who are based and licensed in Malta. Primarily a sports betting company, since its launch in 2006 it has developed into casino and poker. Betway was partnered with GNUF soon after launch (see our review of GNUF Poker here) and they operated as two separate companies for several years. Now they are essentially fully merged with Betway being the dominant brand. In addition to this European license, Betway holds licenses allowing them to legally operate in Denmark, Germany and the ring-fenced markets of Spain and Italy. Betway’s poker software is provided by MicroGaming and it operates on the MPN network.

This review intends to give you a complete insight into Betway Poker. You can find out about the look of the site, and see whether they can be trusted. You can see to if you can play Betway on your mobile device and then the sign up package and loyalty schemes are looked at to ensure you get the best value. Finishing off you can see how to get your money on and off Betway and get a feel for how you will be treated by the customer support.

A Simplistic Site

When you land on Betway’s poker page it is dominated by the image of a dealers hands cutting the cards. The top of the screen contains links to the sports book and casino and in the middle there is a large orange button to download the software. The site has the uniformed colours of black and orange with white text, and looks very modern and slick.

The only promotion advertised is the maximum €750 bonus when you join, which is repeated three times as you go down the page. Even then there is no real information on the bonus other than it’s a 200% match and you release it by playing. Equally there is no information at all regarding cashback and deposit methods and support links are hidden at the bottom of the page.

Unfortunately Betway’s site is all style and no substance.

Can You Trust Betway with Your Money?

Betway have been in operation now for a good amount of time, providing all forms of online gambling. During this time there has been few incidents that have caused complaint, and no serious trends.

This company has to satisfy the legal requirements of the number of licences it owns and as such I would class them as trustworthy.

No Mobile Poker

Despite developments for mobile casino and sports book, Betway do not currently support a mobile poker app. As there is no obvious Instant Play option for a browser poker client, there is not even the option of getting on here through a mobile device’s browser.

Limited New Player Bonus of €750

All new players on Betway get a 200% bonus up to €750. This means if you put on €100, for example, you would be entitled to a €200 bonus.

To release the reward you have to earn enough loyalty points. During play you will automatically gain loyalty points at the rate of 10 per every $1 you spend on cash game rake or tournament fees. To unlock every $1 from your bonus you need to earn 100 loyalty points.

This works out to be the equivalent of 10% rakeback and you have 45 days to clear your bonus. Unfortunately both the level of bonus and clearance rate is low compared to offers on other MPN sites.

Betway also invites all new accounts to the weekly New Player Freerolls with a prize pool of €500. This starts every Wednesday at 19:30CET and you are allowed to enter for the first 6 weeks of your account life. Additionally there is a New Player €500 GTD €1.10 tournament with run later that same evening, which again you can play for the first 6 weeks of your account’s life.

Secret Loyalty Scheme

While this is not obvious on the Betway website, when you start playing real money games you will be automatically entered into their loyalty program. This means you can claim cashback, or rakeback, at a rate up to 30% of the total rake paid that month.

Once you are playing and earning points you will be given a Loyalty Tier. Your tier is determined by how many loyalty points you earn that month, and the higher the tier the more cashback you receive. When you gain a level you get to keep it until the end of the next calendar month, as you accumulate those monthly points.

The tiers are organised like this:
Points Needed Cashback
Bronze 1 – 499 10%
Silver 500 – 1249 15%
Gold 1000 – 1999 20%
Black 2000+ 30%

Points are awarded at 10 points per $1 raked and remain in your account for 180 days after you earn them.

While the website is lacking this information. Once you have downloaded the client you can find it described under the Loyalty points section on your account.

Ways to Deposit and Withdraw Profits from Betway

Betway support all major deposit options including PayPal. Most players using the service already will find this a quick and easy option to get money on and off Betway. You can find other e-wallets which work in a similar way such as NETeller or Skrill.

Credit and Debit cards are fast options to deposit and a preferred way by many players. Visa and MasterCard are both accepted for deposits although only Visa processes withdrawals back to your card.

Other methods to deposit include prepaid vouchers such as Paysafecard. With this you do not have to enter any details online apart from your voucher code after you have purchased it at a local retailer.

24/7 Customer Support

The Betway support is always reachable 24/7. To find out how to get in touch there are Contact Us and Live Chat links at the bottom of the main page, or you can use an option in the menu on your poker client. The link on the website is not exactly obvious, although when you get there the page is well laid out.

I started by sending an email query in and instantly got the automated reply that I would receive an answer in 12 hours. My reply took about 9 hours to come through, so it was within the company’s promised time frame, although this was a bit too long. Other emails I had sent them previously gained a reply within three hours so this can vary.

While I was waiting I sent another query through the Live Chat. The response was immediate and I had my questions answered very quickly in a polite and friendly manner. Given the slower email response time this would definitely be the preferred option to contact support.

In Summary – Betway Is Lacking Information and Value

Betway does appear to offer a quality service and the webpage has a good look to it. Unfortunately it lacks significant information about rakeback and bonus offers until you finally download the client and register. There is also a big lack of information on poker promotions generally. If you are judging the sites to make a decision on where to play, this is a big negative.

When you do get into the numbers to see the value of both the bonus and loyalty schemes it is clear there are better options on other MPN skins, which offer standard 30% rakeback and deposit bonuses up to €1000 which convert at 20% rakeback. Poker seems an afterthought here alongside Betway’s sports-book and casino operations.
