GNUF Poker Review

200% Deposit Bonus

GNUF Poker is now part of Betway Group and what were two separate poker products are now both coming under the Betway brand.

It offers a 200% Welcome Bonus and quick and friendly customer support. I would recommend it as a decent second choice site if you have cleared all the good value bonuses elsewhere.

  • 200% Welcome Bonus To €750 - Double Your Initial Deposit
  • Up to 30% Cashback Through Loyalty Program
  • Good Customer Support Available Round The Clock
  • Good Looking & Informative Website

About GNUF

GNUF.com was launched by the founders of the OnGame network in 2006 with the intention of providing a fun environment for recreational players. After the sale of the network to BWin for nearly €500 million, GNUF saw a number of key OnGame personnel jump ship to join their team as the company cultures clashed.

Shortly afterwards GNUF merged with Betway and is now part of Betway Group. Both companies worked independently of each other for a long time, with GNUF focusing on poker, casino games and bingo while Betway provided poker, casino games and sports betting. Recently GNUF has ceased to take on new players and its products are now coming under the Betway brand. See our review of Betway Poker here.

This review intends to give you a complete view of GNUF/Betway Poker. First you can find a description of the look of the site, before the question of whether it can be trusted is asked. Ways to use your mobile to play on GNUF is looked at and then the welcome package and ongoing promotions are looked at to ensure you get the best value. To wrap up you can find out how to get your money on and off the site and get a feel for how you are treated by the site’s support.

Crisp and Clean Look

In the past, GNUF.com had a fresh, clean feel to it with some wonderful photos – providing a unique modern look at poker and casino games. Now time has moved on the site seems less innovative and more basic, although the predominately white site, with touches of colour, still keeps its crisp look. Under the main title there are tabs allowing you to choose the poker page, which you land on, the casino and help pages. Both of these other tabs now link to the Betway main page.

The main image on the site is a picture of a 3D poker sculpture next to the buttons allowing you to access the client. These are labelled ‘Download & Play’ to get the software and ‘Instant Play’ which launches a browser client.

As you scroll down the screen you see a list of the latest promotions with text links to their own pages. There is a box on the right which allows you to switch between Poker Games, Tournaments and Sit n Goes, which has links to information on each format.

While the site was cutting edge when it was first looked, it is no longer in the same class as the leading poker brands. The links to Betway demonstrate moves to continue to move GNUF more into the Betway brand.

Can You Trust GNUF with Your Money?

There appear to be no major issues or complaints with GNUF. GNUF has offices and is fully licensed in Malta. The current provider of its poker games are the MPN network, operated by MicroGaming who also own Maltese licenses.

Play Poker on GNUF on A Mobile Device

Currently neither GNUF nor Betway Poker supports any mobile apps. Using the Instant play option you can play in your browser if you have and Android device.

200% Deposit Bonus

All new players on Betway are entitled to a 200% bonus up to $750. This means Betway will double your initial deposit for you.

In order to claim the reward there are some play through requirements. As you play you will automatically gain loyalty points at the rate of 10 per $1 you spend on cash game rake or tournament fees. For every $1 of bonus you are awarded you need to clear 100 loyalty points.

This works out to be the equivalent of 10% rakeback and you have 45 days to clear your bonus. As GNUF/Betway does try to appeal to recreational players rather than pros, I can understand the bonus being lower than the €1000 match bonuses you see on other poker rooms, although this release rate is also low compared them.

GNUF/Betway also invites its new signups to the weekly New Player Freerolls with a prize pool of €500. This runs on a Wednesday at 19:30CET and you can play for 6 weeks after you create your account. Additionally there is a €500 GTD €1.10 tournament with runs afterwards, which again you can play for the first 6 weeks on your account.

Up To 30% Rakeback through Loyalty Program

As a player competing in the real money games on Betway you will be put onto their loyalty program. This allows players to gain cashback, or entries into tournaments, at a rate up to 30% of the total rake paid that month.

As you start accumulating points you will be placed on a Loyalty Level. Your level is determined by how many points you have gained, and the higher the level the more cashback you receive. Once a level is gained you do not fall below that until the end of the next calendar month.

The levels are arranged like this, with points needed and your cashback as a % of rake you have paid.

Points Needed Cashback
Bronze 1 – 499 10%
Silver 500 – 1249 15%
Gold 1000 – 1999 20%
Black 2000+ 30%

If you meet the requirements for Gold or Black you have to rake less next month to reclaim it – 25% less for Black. If you fail to meet requirements on Betway you only drop down 1 level rather than lose all your status privileges completely.

Points are awarded at 10 points per $1 raked and remain in your account for 180 days after you earn them. Should you convert them to cash or the 180 days expire they will be removed from your account.

Despite referring to their loyalty schemes as Betway’s Loyalty Club, the GNUF website has a lot of details on this promotion.

Moving Your Money On and Off of GNUF

GNUF/Betway supports a range of methods to deposit and withdraw from the site.

Credit and debit cards are quick obvious choices for players. Both Visa and MasterCard are accepted, although you can only receive withdrawals back to your card via Visa.

E-wallets are accepted on the site and several are accepted. These services, the most famous examples being NETeller and Skrill, allow you to deposit into an online account which you can then use to move money on and off different sites. This gives you a secure, timesaving option if you play on several sites, as you do not have to keep entering your details everywhere.

Finally there are several prepay options, such as Ukash and paysafecard, which allow you to purchase your top up in a shop, then just enter your voucher code when you need to move to money online.

Quick and Friendly Customer Support

When trying to get to the support you are taken to the Betway homepage and have to find it again from there. As Betway also run an MPN poker room, if you are an existing GNUF player in all correspondence it is best to make a point of mentioning GNUF to save confusion and delays.

The Betway support is open 24/7. When I sent my email query the automated reply stated I would be responded to in 12 hours which is standard and most sites state this and respond quicker. The actual reply came through inside of three hours and answered my question exactly.

I asked another question to the Live Chat. There was a short delay as others were processed before me, although knowing where I was in the queue helped. The operator I got was very friendly and helpful, so top marks there.

In Summary – They’ve Had GNUF

As GNUF no longer accepts new players it will only be a matter of time before it is fully merged with Betway.

As you can find better bonuses and rakeback elsewhere on other MPN sites, there is really little point in choosing Betway over the others as there is more value elsewhere. With that said it has a nice look to it which is pleasant to play on and the customer service through Betway is very professional and good.

If you are looking for one site to concentrate you play on then you are better off looking for more generous deals. If you have cleared all the good value bonuses and are looking to add another MPN skin to your portfolio, it is one of the preferred second choice sites.
